SC400

  • Automatic transmission
  • 250,000 miles

So, this is an older car. I know I have run it hard. But there is an issue that has to do with its design. When they made the 95 Lexus SC400, they put the alternator UNDERNEATH the power steering pump, a pump that is notorious for leaking. See where this is going? I have had this car for 8 years, and in that time, I have had to replace the alternator 3 times. Every time, it is due to the power steering pump leaking onto the alternator. I even replaced the pump, and less than a year later the alternator went out again.

I also have an oil leak, but I know that is my head gasket (this is an OLD car at this point)... but that should not effect the alternator.

Lastly, parts for this car are EXPENSIVE, if you can even find them. Being an old Lexus makes parts rare. My shift knob tore up, and there are NO aftermarket replacements, and all the old ones are worn.
