Whenever there is a pothole or bumps in the road, there is a clunking noise in the suspension. I was the told the ball joints needed replacing and an alignment needed. This was done but the problem remains. This is on a 2000 Lincoln Ls. The problem first occurred at around 50,000 miles. The ball joints and alignment were done at around 190,000 miles with no difference in the condition.

The contact owns a 2000 Lincoln Ls. The front tires made a screeching noise whenever the vehicle turned left or right at 20 mph. The steering wheel works perfectly fine. The vehicle was taken to an auto shop and the mechanic stated that the suspension around each ball joint failed. The contact later discovered a recall for that component. The manufacturer stated that the repair had already been performed by the previous owner. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The failure mileage was 79,000 and current mileage was 82,000.

While the contact's son was driving the vehicle was swerving. He thought it might have been the tires. He took the vehicle to a tire store, but it was not the tires. The mechanic determined that it was the bolts in the suspension which were not tightened properl, causing the ball joints wear out. This will be repaired at contact's expense. There was NHTSA recall 00V35900. He contacted the manufacturer, and was told this vehicle was not included due to VIN.
