I have had many shifting problems with my 2000 Lincoln Ls. I have had it looked at by dealers and have been told many different reasons why I am having the shifting problems. One dealer told me it was a computer glitch and cannot be fixed. So far I have had my computer reset, fuel filter changed, ignition coils and igniters changed, fuel injectors cleaned or something like that and some shifting sensor or transmission sensor changed. With all this maintenance done I still have a engine light illuminated on my dash and my car still shifts when it feels like it. Many times when I need to accelerate it pauses and seems to not be able to find gears. The most scary incident was while driving on the freeway on December 3, 2005 my 2000 Lincoln Ls's shifting became erratic sputtered and then the car turned off. While going about 65 miles per hour I was left with no power steering and had to pull to the side of the road nearly being rear ended by a truck. I have yet to have an accident but fear that with this erratic shifting it might happen. I will pay whatever it takes to have this problem fixed once and for all. I have no choice but to drive this car to and from work because it is my only means of transportation. I love my Lincoln and this is my second one my first was a 2001 and it had the same shifting problems but not as bad as this one. My Lincoln is not the only one with these problems I am a member of 4 Lincoln clubs on line and have heard many horror stories about Lincoln Ls's erratic shifting. Not only is this problem deemed unfixable by my dealership. Many other Lincoln dealerships have given the same run around to members of the Lincoln clubs that I am a member of. Llsoc is one of the clubs that I am a member of.

While driving my 2000 Lincoln Ls the transmission tends to shift on it's own from high to to low gear and back to high gear thus causing a stall. This situation can happen at any time, ie: While driving on the interstate at 65 mph it well shift back and forth and cause the vehicle to hesitate and then stall. When there is a tractor trail rig behind you at 65 or 70 mph you know what will happen. Being a trained vehicle operator to drive under very advers condictions I can handle the situation, on most times, but there are situations that even the best drivers can not handle. The dealership keeps telling me that it is an air flow problem to with the sensor but I say it is a major safety issue and the dealer should report it to thier headquarters and repair the problem for free.
