Normal clear weather driving down busy street when care suddenly slowed down almost resulting in a collision with vehicles behind me. The engine stopped, I restarted with very limited drivability the etc failsafe mode kicked in for no apparent reason this issue must be addressed before someone is seriously injured.

Driving down the side street and my car goes into limp mode. Reads etc.start up will move about 1/4 of the block and does it again. Had to keep turning it off and on to get home.once stop in the middle of the intersection. From what I have seen this is not unusual for Ls. This is a safety concern. Have not got my car fix because it is very expensive to fix.

The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. While driving over a speed bump and depressing the break pedal, the rpms began to increase and the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own. The contact applied excessive force to the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to stop accelerating. The failure occurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technicians were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer advised an engineer to inspect the vehicle. The engineer stated the throttle had to be replaced. Approximately six years after the throttle was replaced the contact experienced the identical failure again. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.

The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. The contact stated that when accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle would hesitate before engaging and would then jerk abnormally. In addition, the vehicle would stall intermittently without warning. The dealer performed a diagnosis and determined that the throttle box and transmission were defective. The throttle box was replaced and the computer was reprogrammed although the dealer advised he was unable to determine why the vehicle was stalling. The vehicle was repaired but the failures recurred. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.

I was driving to work early in the morning with my child in the back seat. While getting off the freeway (thank god) my 2004 Lincoln Ls went into "etc engine failsafe mode". I could not accelerate or drive over 20. At this point, I had to pull over because I was in traffic and I did not want to get hit. Once I pulled over, I turned the car off for about 5 mins and then turned it back on. Starting driving out of the parking lot and once I got to the main road, the error message came on again. Could not accelerate over 20 again. At this point, I did 20 all the way to the sitters house to drop off my daughter and tried to drive my car to the dealership. I have been having issue on top of issue with this 2004 Lincoln Ls and by the reviews looks like I am not the only one. I goggled the error message and I find nothing but angry customers who have similar Lincoln. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this and have the company recall this car or pay for labor and parts for everyone. This is a inconvenience to everyone who owns a Lincoln and having these problems.

Lincoln Ls 2004 - throttle body failure - engine fail safe mode - no parts available nationwide from October 2009 until present date March 4, 2010 - unsafe to drive and car remains at dealership with no date from Ford for replacement as apparently they are trying to re-engineer and fix whatever is the problem. After looking on internet this is apparently a problem that is running throughout the entire Ford line. It seems like this is in complete contrast to the problem that Toyota is having in that without warning the engine shuts down to 20 to 30 miles per hour leaving you vulnerable on the highway and unable to warn anyone driving behind you that you have a problem that you have no control over throttle. Many owners report cars jump forward or reverse without warning.
