This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Lincoln dealer.
DIY mechanic here for around 15 years. This almost new MKC just bought last week (which I am keeping because my wife really likes it and there is a solution to this problem) is experiencing the well known hard shift into 3-4. Like everyone else who owns the MKC or the sister car Ford Escape (or any Ford/Lincoln with the 6F35 transmission) this is a Hard Shift that feels like you just got hit from behind. It also feels like when it is in 3rd, it continues to shift out of 3rd and back in 3rd even with the slightest pressure on the gas like I am coasting. I had this in my test drive and the next day performed the Master Reset to reset the Adaptive Learning which seems to be a big part of the issue which made it somewhat better, but the problem is still there (which makes sense since the solution from Ford is a mechanical part)
I will discuss with my dealer but from other people's complaints on here, it looks like they will just reset the system again and send me on my way (even though there is a known TSB from Ford about it) they will only repair at their expense in the most severe situations. This is why I have taken time out of my day to write here about this known issue. Anyone with a 6F35 transmission should be able to get this fixed under a Recall so I hope this gets investigated into one. In the meantime, you can fix it here-

I purchased this Beauty in Feb. 2019, and for 5K it drove like a DREAM! Then one morning I went from Park to Reverse to pull out of my driveway when I heard a G-r-i-n-d-i-n-g noise followed by a Noticeable "Klunck", a noise I haven't heard since I drove an "Iltis" in the Military, and surely not a sound you'd expect to hear on a Lincoln w/ only 58K on the dial.
The sound was/is very reminiscent of an older vehicle that was down a few ounces of Tranny Fluid, but on these New sealed unit's, everything MUST now be brought to a Mechanic/Dealer!!! Since the car is still under Warranty, I brought it in to the Local Dealership - where after being kept overnight, a "Solenoid" was reportedly changed
The noise still exists, quieter, but it's still there. Any/all Information regarding this Issue would be greatly appreciated. Cheer's, and Thank's, Andy S.
