My 2011 Lincoln MKS has a "power steering assist fault" and lost power steering control while driving. This issue was covered by recall 15S18. The local dealer, Larry H. Miller Ford in Sandy, UT, indicated my VIN is not covered. This has now happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks. The dealer gladly offered to charge me for diagnosis and repair which can consist of reprogramming the computer and/or completely replacing the steering mechanism (hundreds of $s). Ford customer service also indicated the repair was my problem as did the Lincoln Client Relationship Center. Because Ford implies that it is somehow a coincidence that this vehicle is experiencing the same problem that was the subject of a recall for vehicles of the same year, model, engine and drive train, I have filed NHTSA complaint #10917850. This is clearly not a coincidence and it it an obvious safety issue when the power steering fails randomly. Ford/Lincoln is hiding behind the fact that somehow they only included certain VINs (though hundreds of thousands of Ford/Lincoln vehicles were included); but the fact this is the identical issue for the same vehicle (VIN notwithstanding) illustrates their commitment to safety (or lack thereof) to customers. This is the last Ford I will ever own.
