In states where road salt is used, Ford is recalling certain vehicles where the license plate lamp assembly may experience an electro-chemical reaction and corrosion as a result of water intrusion. Ford's list of recalled vehicles appear to be very narrow. My 2007 Lincoln Mkx (three years prior to the current recall list) has the same problem - one of the 2 license plate lights is corroded and quit working (it was rusted and fell apart when I went to replace it). I expect the other light isn't far behind. If there is an increased risk of fire, the current recall should warrant a closer look at adding more vehicles that used this component. Re: NHTSA campaign number: 14V285000 component(s): Exterior lighting consequence: Corrosion may result in a short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.
