MKX

The parking brake on my Lincoln Mkx will not hold the vehicle on a slope. The dealer and Ford Motor Company say that there is nothing that can be done about it. According to them, the brake is designed to function when the transmission is in park. Using the transmission to hold the car does not comply with the federal regulations for parking brakes which are quite clear. The regs state that: "every combination of motor vehicles must be equipped with a parking brake system adequate to hold the vehicle or combination on any grade on which it is operated, under any condition of loading in which it is found on a public road (free of ice and snow)." There is no mention of the transmission or park in the regulations. The brakes alone will not hold the vehicle so the vehicle is quite dangerous. Property and people will be damaged. The same braking system is used on the Ford edge.
