MKX 3.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 76 miles

The ticking noise we hear when our 2012 MKX is started cold was heard from brand new, first day. The dealership said they would look at this at the first oil change. We were told they did not hear the noise from inside the car. We had told them the noise is heard from outside the car. For the second oil change, we took the car to another dearlership since we were not happy with our dealership. We were told by the second dealership they did not hear the noise. When we picked up the car the service manager brought the car around for us and he heard the niose. His words were "Is this the noise you are talking about? I didn't know it hammered that loud." He took the car around to his engine tec to listen to. He then told us this noise is not normal and he would work on getting it fixed for us. The service manager said they may have to go into the engine. After not hearing from the sevice manager for several weeks, I called and was told he hadn't heard from Lincoln and no fix for engine noise yet. Several more weeks went by and the PTU seal blew. When we called to get a PTU seal leak fixed, we asked that the engine noise be fixed also. The service manager said he had not heard about a fix yet and thought a call to Lincoln Customer Service Complaint line might help. Which I did. I was told Lincoln Service authorized extended loaner car usage for the check and video taping of the engine noise. Lincoln service told me they may have to put in 100% synthetic oil. I said that sounds like a cover up instead of a repair. I'm not interested in that. When we picked up our car we were again told they did not hear the noise in the 2 weeks they had it and had tried it several times. The warranty repair order states "No unusual noise heard. Ticking noises are normal due to thick oil and parts clearances." We have gone from normal to engine hammering to normal again. Lincoln has a TSB on the 2011 3.7L engine noise with a supposed fix. The ticking noise we and other owners hear appears to be the same noise. We have had the vehicle back 4 days now and have 4 cold morning starts on video with a definate engine ticking noise. All in 6700 miles.
