MKZ 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles
The parking brake on my Lincoln Mkz will not hold the vehicle on a slope. The dealer and Ford Motor Company say that there is nothing that cane be done about it. According to them, the brake is designed to function when the transmission is in park. That does not comply with the federal regulations for parking brakes which are quite clear. They state that every combination of motor vehicles must be equipped with a parking brake system adequate to hold the vehicle or combination on any grade on which it is operated, under any condition of loading in which it is found on a public road (free of ice and snow). There is no mention of the transmission or park in that description. The vehicle is quite dangerous. Property and people will be damaged and hurt. The same braking system is used on the Ford edge....updated 11/07/12
