The windshield wipers come on and off intermittently without being switched on/off. They seem to have a mind of their own. The rear wiper does not come on at all most times, even when turned on. Also, the odometer lcd readout comes on and off intermittently. Several light on the dash controls panels come on and off at will as well. It just seems that there is several problems with the wiring systems or possibly in the computer. However, since it only does it intermittantly you cannot plan to check it with the dealer, because there is no telling when it will occur and how long it will last.

Windshield wipers are coming on/off intermittently. Contacted dealer on June 3, and was told they had no correction piece for this problem. Took the vehicle again on 7 Jun 99, they were in the process of updating the GEM module and waiting. Consumer currentlywaiting on the part.

Wipers come on intermittently dealer has replaced multifunction switch which worked for about a month and now it is malfunctioning again. Dealer will not do anything else since they cannot get the wipers to malfunction. My concern is fire since this is in the wiring it is possible that the car might set on fire. Dealer sees no concern even with the other Lincoln recalls due to fire.
