Navigator Ultimate 5.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

The 5.4L is a ggo engine, capable of many hundreds of thousands of miles service. However it has two inherent design flaws.

1) The spark plug change interval was initially too high, it needs to be limited to 30k max, and worked engine hot to avoid the dreaded broken plug. The other issue is people ran unleaded (not premium) in their engine, which will cause the plugs to have carbon deposits.

2) The original timing chain tensioner gaskets fail, causing oil leakage and therefore loss of oil pressure at the cylinder heads. This occurs more often on the RH or passengers side, than the right side. If left to its own devices, this could result in major engine damage. The cure is to replace the timing assembly and any damage valve train components as soon as you notice any ticking noise, or if you vehicle has reached 100k miles. Then replace timing components every 90k afterward.

My engine started ticking at 140k, I took it off line and replaced the damaged components, and now it running fine. Only issue now is a stuck CD in the 6 CD changer... but that is small potatoes.

Navigator 5.4L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

The engine had brief knock when you started the vehicle that last about 3 sec & then ran fine with a slight tick.Today it started idling very rough & knocking constantly. Receive engine code P0011.P0012,P00207, P00208

Can someone please help with this? With the amount of complaints Ford has received about the same problem with these engines there should be some help for consumers. 6 Fords I have owned. Several family member have owned due to my recommendation. Ford where are you? We have shown our loyalty. Ford puts a product out there that has failed us and does nothing about it.
