Brakes started squeaking shortly after inheriting the car after step dad's death. Had car inspected, new tires installed, oil change... Took car to mechanic and they took the wheels off, and detected a crazing/hairline crackling throughout. They determined that there was "plenty of meat left on my brakes" but if they got overheated or I braked severely on a long car ride, the crackling could cause crumbling and could potentially be dangerous. They said my rotors were fine. So, I got top of the line brakes, and replaced them. Still squeaking, and getting more annoying. Also, getting a burning smell and bucking. Not sure if related.
