While driving my vehicle at approximately 45 mph on a local highway, there was an uncommanded movement of the foot pedal adjustment. The pedals retracted away from my feet to the maximum stop furthest away, which put them out of my reach and rendered it nearly impossible to activate the brakes or accelerator pedals. This nearly caused a loss of control accident, had I not disengaged my seat belt and slid forward under the dash to reach the pedals to stop the vehicle. I was subsequently able to use the control switch to move the pedals back into position.

The manufacturer admitted that the contact had a valid point, but they were not authorized to make a decision. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 186,000.

As part of the recent Ford steering recall, an emergency inspection was done on 11/18/13 at 69,104 and declared safe to drive. On 3/18/14 driving to the dealer to have recall work performed, the steering column locked-up solid at the turn was made entering the dealers property.a repair was done replacing the lower shaft only as shown in picture #1. then less than 14 months later a repeat failure of the upper shaft assembly shown in picture #2. there was no secondary recall issued, so a search by VIN showed no outstanding recall, and the dealers insistent ed this was not a recall issue, but. It was, as the complete upper and lower shaft should have been replaced during the repair. The unpredictable locking of the steering wheel poses a serious injury/death risk. All vehicles part of the initial recall should be inspected to insure the repair was don completely and correctly. Pictures available on request (can't seem to attach N this form) also see previous for filed when first failure occurred despite inspection that declared vehicle safe to drive.

Re: recall 13S08 / NHTSA recall 13V385 Ford dealers could not do repairs timely. This is a working commercial vehicle. Bought parts from Ford and had independent mechanic perform repair. Ford/Lincoln refused to reimburse. I feel that in light of the fact that the repairs were performed, and that their representative dealers were not able to fit us in within a reasonable period of time, they should reimburse at least up to the amount they reimburse through dealers. The repairs were done 2 months ago and appear to be solid.

Of concern is that this car is part of recall 13S08, I was notified last fall. Went to a dealer promptly for a safety inspection on 11/18/13. Was told vehicle was safe to drive. Waited for dealer to contact me when parts became available. Never got a call, but got a follow-up letter from Lincoln. While driving to dealer for recall repair, the incident happened before arriving at the dealer. Something is wrong with the safety inspection process. I was told the car was safe to drive. A less experienced driver would have crashed the car. At highway speed, there is no way any driver could have prevented a serious crash.
