I drive on the 401 at least once per month. Ramps are terrifying when gear slips-revs go through the roof and giany clunk after scares the crap out of you-especially when merging next to semi's all over the highway. Car slips instantly if going uphill. Thank god I live in the flat lands!! Uphill you just don't go anywhere. My nephew says heard of this and can be fixed-but most mechanics aren't good enough and just "chase he rabbit"-so problem never gets fixed. I am going to try the dealership at some point-but I know my nephew can fix for good. Otherwise love this car! Runs great and great gas mileage surprisingly! Sound system is the bomb!!

Zephyr Sedan 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,642 miles

This has been very difficult to deal with. This makes me want to get out of the car flip it over and have someone just take it away. I am fed up with Lincoln and ready to take legal action against this manufacture. when accelerating and vehicle shifts gears, it begins to wind up and punch into gear and when you left off the gas when it occurs it is even worse than trying to accelerate. I am at a loss of words.

Zephyr Zephyr V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 500 miles

About a year after I got the car of my freaking dreams .....the transmission went out on it. I had to go twice to the dealership and argue to have it fixed. And they finally did it. A year after the problem, started again. As I step on the gas to go faster it pulls back and then it starts to go, but I almost crashed because I tried to speed up on the highway and it pulled back causing the car behind me to shift to the other side and hitting a car next to it. This was scary and it still is because every other day the car pulls back and then it goes. I went to complain a couple of times and they just gave me the round and round and are still driving this f*cked up car.

Zephyr

Ford Motor Co & Dealerships are aware of the issue. I don't think it is a consumers responsibility to cover for a faulty part that is installed in the factory and is a KNOWN faulty component in this make and model. I guess Ford does not think it is their problem for after market purchases, to stand behind their vehicles,.

Zephyr

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,000 miles

The car always had minor hard shifting problems but they worsened very slowly over the years until but at 92,000 the hard shifting started getting worse at also started experiencing slippage while driving and hesitation in acceleration. Transmission place said continue driving until unable to drive because the transmission is not possible to be repaired. They said it is a common problem seen with Ford/Lincoln models. A new transmission would be $5000 at least if not more.

Zephyr LX 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

After being driven 20 minutes at cruising speed and doing lane change will rev like in neutral before hard shifting into gear and lunging forward.

Update from Dec 23, 2014: For peace of Mind and Safety finally convinced wife to either purchase new car or replace this transmission. Replaced Transmission 12/2014 @ 140,00 miles. Problem continued intermittently for few years as stated car would warm up after 20 minutes of cruising would rev like in neutral and hard shift into gear. Dangerous situation during lane change and @ high speed. Researched this problem via internet, transmission shops, dealerships and other owners and found this problem is well known and documentated. Dealership customer service rep suggested transmission replacement and stated this transmission was only used the first year 2006 production of Zephry later years used another transmission. Ford should be ashame of themselves and issued a recall for any model in which this transmission was used.

Transmission shop in Glen Burnie MD changed my transmission and stated they have worked on many of the Ford transmissions and lots of customers bring them in because of the hard shifting. Great shop

You don't get what you pay for anymore. Very disappointed in this product. Will never buy again. This vehicle has many other problems, not mechanical just cheap manufacturing and use of plastic. Can you say Piece of $#!+ ?

Fort he slipping issues, the dealer said "main component" was faulty. What is this "main component"? Can it be found in aftermarket and repaired appropriately that way fro considerably less? They are quoting me $1,729.
