I own a 1995 Mazda 626 4cyl, 4dr, automatic. The O/D light started flashing the other day and now my transmission will only shift into gear when it wants to. The car idles well, but while on the road for more than 10 mins (while the engine gets heated up), then the car looses power and jerks trying to get into a gear. After reading the issues online, am pretty sure that the transmission may have to be replaced or at least something fixed in it. Looking for some help...

1995 Mazda 626 with approximately 102,000 miles. Transmission failed to engage just after exiting from the highway, requiring a complete new transmission. Transmission mechanic voiced that Mazda used Ford transmissions in this model year and that these have been prone to early failure.

Transmisson fluid bypassed the torque converter seal, sucking air with the fluid. Fluid and clutch pack burned, causing the transmission to go. The dealer has replaced the transmission two times prior to this incident.

While driving transmission went out, causing the fluid to spill onto the radiator which caused the vehicle to smoke. Dealer said vehicle needs new radiator and trasmission.
