problem #1

626 LX 2.5L V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 173,003 miles

Oil pump failed (no oil pressure gauge in car, so no way to tell when it happens) and killed my rod and main bearings in the engine, causing catastrophic failure of the engine and shooting a rod through the side of the block, thus killing it and eliminating any chance of rebuilding the engine.

Engine cost was 4x (used engine) the amount of the cars blue book value, so had to eat huge loss and take vehicle to scrap. Received 300 for complete car and kept new tires and rims from vehicle. Will not ever buy another V6 mazda. Wife's older 4 cylinder mazda is over 200,000 and still runs perfectly, V6 models are plagued with oil pump problems. Didn't find out till it happened to me. Saw 2 other mazda's owned by friends/family with the same death sentence. One was a 2001 626 with 130,000 miles.
