The sunroof exploded. Exploded. Sound was shocking. I did not know what it was. The sound of the outside from the sunroof clued me in. The "shade" underneath the sunroof was closed so I did not see it happen.

On April 15th, 2019, Mazda made the public aware of Recall Campaign 3219D which involves a failure of the Front Body Control Module on Mazda 3 vehicles, which renders the front windshield wipers inoperable. That document indicates that the part number of replacement for the faulty module is KDY5-67-5XX. On July 10th, 2023, a Mazda dealership serviced a 2017 Mazda CX-5 as the windshield wipers were not functioning. They determined that the Front Body Control Module was faulty and causing the issue. With the new module, part number BAYS-67-5XX, the issue is resolved. The above part numbers are remarkably similar, especially given the added factor that the Front Body Control Module of this vehicle failed in the exact same way as is described in the recall. Mazda, in their filing of the Part 573 Safety Recall Report for campaign 3219D for the Mazda 3, indicated that there may still be an issue with the wiper motor's "condenser" (sic, capacitor) being undersized. Mazda refused to reimburse for these repairs when detailed and requested in writing.

One day last month, my front winsheild wipers were going very slowly when I turned them on the Auto setting (maybe 1/4 of normal speed, which is not correct). If I switched it to Lo or Hi they worked fine. A couple of days later the wipers always wiped in the very slow mode (1/4 of the speed of normal wipers), then after a 1/2 hour of driving they stopped altogether. It was raining quite hard at the time and I could not see through the winsheild, so I had to pull over anytime there was someone behind me and roll down the windows so I could see. I had my 11 year old son in the car with me and was terrified we could have been hurt or I could have run into someone or another vehicle because I could not see. I was close enough to limp along slowly and drove to the nearest Mazda dealer. They ended up replacing my vehicle's front BCM (body control module) which cost me $550 and that has fixed the issue. This is the same issue to the Mazda 3's that were recalled recently.

I have a 2017 Mazda CX5 touring model, with 39K miles. The windshield wipers failed on 10/16/2020. My dealer picked up my car today, and determined that the body control module failed. Since my car was out of original warranty, I had to pay the $100 deductible from the extended warranty purchased when the care was new, from the Mazda dealer. Now, considering the 187,000 Mazda 3's recalled for the same failure, I am outraged that I had to pay anything for this repair. If this failure happened while driving in snow or rain, the safety of my family would have been at significant risk. This failure came out of no where, there were no prior issues with the front windshield wipers. I was at a local lowes shopping, and when I went to clean the windshield, the fluid dispensed, but the wipers would not activate. I did change the proper fuse, but that had no positive effect. Also, I noted that 187,000 Mazda 3 models were recalled for the same module failure.

While driving down the highway in my 2017 CX5, the sunroof exploded sending glass throughout the car. It was a sunny day, and no apparent debris flew up from the road. Extremely scary incident.

Driving on a 25 mph residential street windshield went pop and a spider web of cracks appeared in the lower passenger side of the windshield and spread to the middle of the windshield. No sign of anything that hit it. Outside temp is 90 degrees and running air conditioner.. no previous sign of chip or ding from rocks.. car only has 7500 miles on it and is garaged every day.. lots of comments on Mazda forum about bad /thin windshields on cx 5S..
