CX-5 GT 2.5 skyactive

As I was driving at about 40-50 mph on clear sunny day... with no cars nearby, no jersey walls or trees around my car... my BRAKE!!! Lights popped up and scared the s*** out of me. It didn’t try to stop me, but the fact that it falsely illuminated was a wake up call to bring to my dealers attention sooner rather than later.

The exact same thing happened again the next morning on a country road less than 2 miles from my house. The same scenario... no other vehicles on the road... it scared me again. I dropped by my local dealer that morning and asked to speak with the service manager. He didn’t really seem to think it was anything other than some dust on front logo emblem on center grill. He took it for a ride to see if it would happen to him... and of course it didn’t.

He said he did a check of the computer system and no codes were thrown. He also told me he looked at Mazda Tech Bulletins and found nothing... I’m concerned about my safety after hearing about a Nissan doing the same thing on an Interstate Highway at high speeds. I told the service manager that I wanted to make sure to document my incidents and how my dealership evaluated it. He told me that the technology isn’t perfect and that even rain or steam on windshield could make brakes think it was something else... like a car...

Not too reassuring.

smart brake system malfunction

Seems to be a known issue to Mazda for VIN's earlier than ...437482. Why not recall and fix? They published a bulletin #15-002/18 dated 12/5/18. There's no reason this shouldn't be covered... warranty or not.
