I parked my new 2018 Mazda CX-5 on a hill/driveway. I opened the driver's door in a very normal fashion. Before I exited the car, I heard a strange noise and noticed that the door extended beyond the door checker causing it to dent with the front panel. There were no other marks on the door. I was told by Mazda that it was due to "external influence." The only influence was the weight of the door resting on the door checker. The part failed to do what it was suppose to do, stop the door from opening to far. Previously, I had parked three other manufactures cars on the very hill and opened their doors in the same normal fashion and never had a problem. I can only surmise that the part was defective and Mazda rather blame me than fix their defective part and the damage it caused.
