About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I work for a body shop and we took this seat out in order to replace the frame underneath. While the seat was sitting on the ground, no one near it, the airbag deployed. We have it on video. We have concerns about replacing the seat/airbag if it's going to randomly deploy and potentially injure our technician or the customer. According to Mazda, there are no known recalls related to this and the customer is responsible for buying a new seat and airbag. I see online that other people have said this too, but they were driving the vehicle at the time it randomly deployed. I'm wondering if there are other complaints regarding this/a way for us to get Mazda to replace this since it seems like a part defect.

Entire drivers side air bags deployed, with only the driver in the vehicle, after striking a curb, (after striking a coyote, then swerving). Front central air bag did not deploy-only the side, and then for the entire side of a four door SUV, Mazda CX-5. Air bag slammed into neck and chest of driver nearly striking jugular with sharp impact. There does not appear to be any reason for side air bag to deploy, without front center deploying.

The contact owns a 2018 Mazda CX-5. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by her husband with a DTC code reader that the passenger's side air bag sensor was faulty and the passenger's side air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

I purchased this VIN less than 24 hours ago, I was told it was certified by the dealership. In looking up the VIN on www.NHTSA.gov this am, it says the recall #3719F was not fixed; the dealership just sent me a screen shot from Mazda North America operations warranty vehicle inquiry report, and it shows the repair done. Who do I believe? the vehicle is at my home on the drive way, stationary. I'm asking the dealership to pick the car up, and refund my $100 dollars. They want $400 more when I get paid 2/25.

I was driving on the highway and it was raining. I lost control of the vehicle, the steering wheel was spinning uncontrollably. I was advised I most likely hydroplaned. The vehicle finally slowed down and backed into a guardrail. Only the rim of the driver side back tire was damaged. The impact felt like the impact felt when hitting a curb too hard. This did not happen on the side of the road with a shoulder, so after the tire hit the guardrail, I moved to the car to the other side of the road to be on the shoulder. Once I arrived at the other side of the road, the airbags deployed and the brake assist light came on and the police were automatically called. The car was towed and the collision shop cannot explain why the airbags deployed. I'm terrified that the airbags can deploy at any time for any reason. I am also terrified that they will not deploy when they are supposed to since they deployed at least 10-15 seconds after the impact with the guardrail occurred.

Intermittent airbag or seatbelt fault warning. Every couple days over past 7days while driving at highway speed light comes on. Display says fault in passenger airbag or seatbelt. Once car is shut off warning stops and is erased. No passengers are in the seat at the time. Even if buckle seatbelt in empty seat warning can appear. Will try and have dealer look at it but like I said warning disappears for a few days once car is shut off

On January 10, 2019, I slowed down in my local grocery store parking lot, going about 10 miles and hour, and was coasting into a parking space at about 5 mph. It was about 1:15 pm on a sunny, clear day. I was applying the brake to stop the car as I pulled into the spot yet I was going slow and coasting straight into the spot. Suddenly, the car sped up, the brakes had no response, and the car accelerated hitting 3 parked cars near the parking space. I did not have my foot on the accelerator, I had my foot on the brake... but more than anything, I had no control, it was unintended acceleration. Then the car stopped after I hit three vehicles and fortunately no humans. I was shaken, but no bags deployed. I have approximately 6950 miles on this car. I have been the only owner. I am afraid to drive this car because I am concerned it will do this again and I will be in traffic or near people and I could hurt or kill myself or someone else. There was no warning of any problem. I don't want to update my documents on the internet but will submit once I have an NHTSA employee reach out to me. My records include a filed police report, a report with Mazda corporate (as of today) and pictures of the vehicles which are available upon request.

Unintended acceleration. I entered office parking building as usual. Parking spot was on the right. Slowly approaching I started to turn right with foot on brakes. Suddenly car accelerated by itself and hit a concrete wall before I even realized what's happened. Steering wheel airbag deployed, I got secured by the safety belt. Front of my car is damaged. I'm terrified of driving the car due to this unintended acceleration issue.
