Low speed crash. Driver was pulling into parking space and car accelerated hard up over the curb and into a large hedge. The hedge was old with thick internal branches, and it broke the front air deflector, plastic front upper trim and bend the hood in the centre. The lower air dam was broken when it went over the curb.
The car is still drivable and we are having the front body repaired. I looked up this issue on line and saw that it has happened before, infrequently. Usually the driver is blamed, loose footwear or loose floor mats. Not the case here. I also disabled the SCBS (Smart City Braking System) based on other forum posts I saw.
2 weeks later, the same thing happened. Low speed, in parking lot, sudden hard acceleration when parking.
Taking it to the dealer for diagnostics in 2 days.
Update from Apr 16, 2026: Took it back to dealer who "could not find anything wrong". Dealer had me fill out a 3 page survey to collect data for Mazda so it clearly has happened to others? It happened again - low speed parking lot - and suddenly it was like the cruise control kicked in - so I traded it in to the dealer for a 2025 model.
