problem #1

Dec 292023

CX-5 Preferred Plus Inline 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Check engine light came on first. Car continued to perform fine. Diagnostic code P0126. The exact issue was the coolant control valve had failed. Dealership stated the control valve is designed to fail open so car engine doesn't overheat. As a result, coolant sensor reads coolant to cold causing code. Mazda covered this part/repair under the 5yr./60,000mi. drivetrain warranty. The service department stated this was a known problem & all control valves not already installed were recalled & a new replacement shipped out. Dealership had plenty of new replacement parts on hand as it's been a common repair. I was at the dealership for about 1.5 hours to complete the repair. Service department stated they haven't seen any returns after the new control valve was installed.
