It seems the drivers side auto leveling or adaptive side to side motor runs after shutting off the car. The growling noise continues until the headlamps shut off after the minute or so courtesy illumination period. I can make the motor/noise stop manually by rotating the headlamp selector to off position. I have read on multiple Mazda forums that this is a common problem but oddly only with the drivers side. Others have indicated the assembly was replaced under warranty. We will be taking our Mazda in for this issue in a few days. There are videos on the Mazda forms that play the sound & it's exactly the sound our car makes.

I will update after our visit with the dealership.

Update from Jul 28, 2023: We took our car in for the headlight issue. The dealership checked out the issue & stated the entire headlight assembly would need to be replaced. They verified it was the auto leveling motor that was continuing to run & it should not do that. The issue will be fixed under warranty. They also stated they have been seeing this issue a lot.

Update from Jan 11, 2024: Dealership replaced the entire headlight assembly under warranty. I was told this was a known & common problem with several models with auto leveling headlights.
