I have a 2007 Mazda CX7. A/C problems, I have talk to the dealer and searched the internet and have found many other people are having the same problems. Stop cooling, smoke coming from the vents and engine. Most only have 36,000- 50,000 miles. The cost of repairs are $1000+. the has had many cars come in with the same problem.

Driving my car (2007 Cx-7 with 29,500 miles on it - still "supposed" to be under warranty) as normal on a relatively hot and muggy day with A/C on (May 27, 2010). Rolled to a stop at a light at the bottom of an exit ramp, and the car shuttered and died. Popped into neutral, started up, put it in drive and it died again. I shut off the A/C and put the windows down to listen to the car, put it in neutral again and it started, put it in drive and it drove just fine. Engine temp was fine. I drove the car without A/C to get home safely. My husband and I switched cars (he has a Mazda 3, we are (were?) Mazda lovers). He drove it without A/C for the week, and on a limited basis until we could get it to a service appointment. Morning of June 3, car has smoke coming out of engine after driving 2-3 miles from home. Only the fan was running. There is an awful sound that comes on if the car runs with any of the air/circulation components. Engine temp is still in the normal range. It is currently at a dealership and we are waiting to hear back, but my suspicion is that it is the same problem with the A/C compressor/clutch/belt set up. Not good.

  • 39,000 miles
I bought my 2007 Mazda Cx-7 February 2007 with 19,000 miles. At the 20,000 mile mark I had to take the car in to get the transmission computer replaced, thankfully my car was still under warranty and that got taken care of..at 35,000 miles I began having electrical issues, with the windows & doors, I eventually went outside of the Mazda corporation to fix the problem since my warranty had expired. I encountered the biggest problem of all on May 30, 2010 at 39,000 miles and a mere 16 months after having purchased the vehicle. While on a trip out of town with my family for memorial day weekend, the A/C suddenly went out and a strong burning smell began to fill the car.the smell was soo sudden and strong that my severe asthma almost immediately begin to act up. Fortunately, we were close to our destination and were able to stop within a few minutes. We figured we would let the car rest and didn't drive it for 24 hrs. The following day when we attempted to turn in on, it would not start and there was thick white smoke coming from the hood. We opened the hood and a giant cloud of smoke filled the air along with the reek of burning rubber. Being it was memorial day we struggled to find a mechanic shop that was open to assist us and to tow our car. Upon diagnosis it was established that the A/C compressor had died out having burned multiple components of my car, the final cost of these repairs is over $1600 including a $1200 compressor. I attempted to call Mazda corporate as well as the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and they seemed to wipe their hands clean off this incident even though upon research this seems to be a very common problem in this vehicle, one that upon discussing on forums they seem to be very aware of. I do not have $1600 at hand thus my vehicle remains out of town where it broke down. Mazda's nonchalant attitude is pushing me to file a class action lawsuit, they need to take responsibility for this defect & recall it this vehicle immediately!

While driving my 2007 Mazda CX7 with circulating fan on suddenly heard a grinding noise and had a lot of white smoke coming from under right front hood. There weren't any warning lights on my dash & the temp gauge read normal. Car has 43,000 miles on it and was at dealer previous week for routine oil change. Local Mazda dealer advised A/C compressor, dryer, expansion valve, pag oil & freon are all needed for $1,400 and it would take a 1/2 day to repair once they had the parts. This is a known defect and Mazda should cover with a recall.

Pulled into a gas station, once placed in park position, noticed white smoke coming from passengers front side. Opened the hood and smelled something burning. Drove home (5 mins) and left until I returned car to dealership. According to dealership, the air compressor locked up and the radiator cap was not working properly. The are replacing radiator cap and replacing air compressor with belt.

I was driving down the road April 10, 2010, in my 2007 Mazda cx 7 when the A/C started blowing hot air, next thing I knew people are flagging me down and telling me my car is on fire! the car was not on fire, just very hot and smoking with a very bad burning smell. Dealership said A/C compressor locked up which caused other damage. Dealership said "they had no knowledge of problems with A/C compressor". low and behold numerous complaints online of people with the same issues, between 30 - 50K miles, some even losing power steering or complete operation of their vehicles due to A/C compressor failure. Mazda has not recalled? this is a problem and it may cost someone their life. Please investigate...

2007 Mazda Cx-7 - 39 months old with 35,000 miles, the air conditioning A/C compressor caught on fire, melted the compressor and made the car smoke, had to stop the car and wait to be towed back home. Seems to be a problem happening to a lot of other Cx-7 owners. Would like for Mazda to take care of this problem and pay for any parts and repairs on this matter.

I own a 2007 Mazda CX7 that the A/C compressor seized up on causing a near fire under the hood. I heard an awful noise and saw smoke billowing under the hood. I shut it down immediately knowing that what was about to happen couldn't be good. I went online and found out this has happened to many cx7S now the dealer is telling me that because I've owned this for 37 months, (35,000 miles) that it isn't covered by the 60,000 mile drive train warranty, (if I can't drive it, its a drivetrain problem to me)...this needs to be a class action lawsuit..or a recall you're choice.

2007 Mazda Cx-7 - A/C compressor went out on way home from fl to atl. White smoke from right side engine bay. Was able to turn off A/C in time to keep vehicle running. Seems this is a known issue with Mazda. $900 to replace parts and labor. Mazda of roswell states issue was unknown to them. Mazda usa is aware as well as all the forums and this site as well from other customers. Many customers have had this happen multiple times. Some within the 36K btb warranty, some after. Powertrain is up to 60K. With this being a known issue, shouldn't this be a recall if it is a problem that will occur on most 2007 Cx-7's with the part? I have emailed Mazda usa as well.

I have a Mazda Cx-7 2007. In the last 6 months I had to replace ac condenser twice. It locked up and started smoking. And the car was undriveable. Now they have 300 back orders for this part before I can fix my car.

My 2007 Mazda CX7 A/C compressor froze up at 37500 miles. The engine started to smoke wile driving the vehicle causing me to suddenly stop and evacuate the vehicle. I thought the vehicle was on fire. Mazda is well aware of this issue. At first they attempted to charge me 1000 for the repair. After repeated discussions with the dealer and Mazda usa the vehicle was fixed at no charge. This issue is very serious and there needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt.

Ac blowing warm air and loud noise from under the hood, sounded like I was driving a diesel. Took car to shop to determine what was causing the noise. Ac compressor going out car only has 41,600 miles on it. Ac compressor has to be replaced or risk more damage to motor. Warranty expired at 36,000 miles. Company first told me I had the extended warranty then later called and stated I did not have extended warranty and job would cost $1,100. Told them I would come and get car not able to pay $1,100 for repair. Called me back later and stated that they would cover 60% if I would pay 40%.

I was stranded an hour away from home B/C my Mazda Cx-7 wouldn't start. I had to have it towed back to the dealership an hour away. The problem was that the ac compressor broke and that cause the drive belt to break which in turn caused a motor mount to blow out and all that drained my battery such that I had to replace it as well. This happened less than a week ago and I'm already hearing of others who have also had problems with their ac in the same type car.

Air conditioner stopped blowing cool air. Was on a three hour trip and stopped at a 4 way. The Mazda Cx-7 engine died and would not start. I had to be pushed to the side of a busy intersection. The dealership said it was the A/C compressor. The compressor went out and caused the belt to slip, not allowing the alternator to do its job.
