Engine began to vibrate, scraping sound, A/C stopped working. I had car towed to Mazda dealership where they replaced the A/C compressor, timing chain and actuator. Total cost $2306.57. Dealership stated they brought PCM up to date. Egr valve indicator fault now active.

My wife and I have a 2007 Mazda cx 7 with 68000 miles on it. On August 13th my wife was driving with my 9 month old daughter and noted a funny sound with loss of air conditioning or change of quality of air conditioning. She reported smoke and noise that followed. Luckily she was on a back road and close to her destination and was able to arrive at the destination without having to drive far. She phoned me and gave me the news and I immediately knew it was the air conditioning compressor. This is due to research I have done that the Mazda cx 7 from 2007 is notorious for the air conditioning compressor seizing up. Luckily my wife was aware of this issue and parked the car and had it towed to a local mechanic to be repaired. In the meantime, I had emailed Mazda and reported the issue, the part had the warranty extended to 60000 miles, so I was already irritated to know that this happened 8000 miles outside of warranty on a part Mazda already knew was defective. They have yet to respond to my email and that was already more than a week ago. The car is repaired now and not by a Mazda dealership as I refuse to give them anymore of my money. I am very displeased with the lack of customer service and lack of ownership by this company over an issue with this part they clearly know exists. This part is clearly defective and dangerous and should have been recalled and replaced. I think it is ridiculous that they extended a warranty, but will not just replace a defective part they produced that could cause personal harm and danger to not only the owners of this car, but other people on the road around it.

My wife was on her way home when there was a funny buzzing or squealing noise coming from under the hood of her 07 Mazda CX7. She pulled over and there was smoke coming from her right front tire area. She then had to call our insurance roadside assistance to have it towed to our local service repair shop. Later we found that the ac compressor was seized and the belt was melted. After further research upon this matter I am finding that there is an astonishing number of other people that have had the same issue. Come to find out Mazda is telling people that this is a known issue and to come in and pay $1500- $2500 to have the defective part replaced. This is unacceptable!!!!! my wife is on the side of the freeway at rush hour waiting for a tow truck and Mazda could have had this issue resolved... how many other people have to be put into dangerous situations before Mazda steps up and takes care of a known problem..

Mazda sent a letter to report a known issue with the 2007 and 2008 Cx-7 in August 2010. The A/C compressor was creating issues and Mazda extended the warranty to 60,000 miles. The letter indicated that no action was needed unless you heard a strange "noise". based on my experience and those of others, the problem occurs with no warning and all of a sudden the A/C stops working and smoke begins to come from under the hood. The issue can also cause the power steering to go out and the car to stall so how can this not be a safety concern and not be considered a recall" the warranty is only extended to 60,000 miles and there are many cases where the problem does not occur until after 60,000 miles. Is Mazda just hoping that most will happen after 60K so they don't have to pay for the repair? I had the dealer check it during a routine service but they wouldn't repair it unless there was a "noise". while on vacation, my car A/C stopped working and started to make the "noise". then smoke started to come out from under the hood, frightening my kids in the car. We were traveling on the interstate at the time and had to find a safe place to pull aside. We barely made it to the nearest mechanic before the belt broke. My car had 65,000 miles and Mazda will not pay for the cost of the repair, nor the cost to rent a car in its place. Now I am out almost $1,700 for repairs and rental fees. This issue needs to be investigated. Does someone have to die in an accident as a result for Mazda to be held accountable"

While driving home with my A/C on, my 2007 Mazda CX7 began making a terrible whining & grinding sound, followed by billows of smoke coming from under the hood. I immediately pulled off the road, turned off the car and opened the hood, which continued to smoke for some time and there was a smell of burning rubber. I burned my hand in the process. The car was deemed unsafe and undriveable and had to be towed back to the nearest Mazda dealer where we had also purchased the vehicle. It was late at night, so, the next morning I received a call from the dealer telling me the fire started with the A/C compressor, which then ignited the drive belt. That's why it smelled so awful. He said it was "burned badly". the parts were not in stock, so, they have to order new parts. So, I'm without transportation. No offer from the dealer for a rental. They also did not tell me that there was a recall on 2007 Mazda CX7 A/C compressors, which I learned about by online research. I never received a letter from Mazda regarding the recall. So, it turns out that many, many people are experiencing the same issue and not enough is being done about it to fix the problem. The car has less than 30K miles and recently had a full inspection by the dealer. I'm now waiting to find out if the dealer will try to get me to pay for this or if they will honor the warranty. Many online complainants are being denied and are being forced to pay for this themselves. This is not right.

2007 Mazda Cx-7 - A/C compressor went out (mileage 43,090 and out of warranty) on way to work on 1/4/11 around 7:30am. My car started making loud noises from the engine the day before but their were no warning signs in my car. On my way to work a lot of white smoke from my tale pipes started coming out and the noise got louder along with a burning smell and then my battery light came on and my car cut off while I was on the highway. I was lucky to coast off to the side of the road. $1250 to replace parts/tow and labor. Seems this is a known issue with Mazda because I have been on a lot of forums where tons of people are having the same issue. Mazda on rt. 42 South jersey NJ didn't mention this was a known issue. Many customers have had this happen multiple times. Some within the 36K btb warranty, some after. With this being a known issue, shouldn't this be a recall if it is a problem that will occur on most 2007 Cx-7's with the part?

I have my 2007 Mazda for a year and it has been at the dealership for 1/2 the time I've owned it. It is the worst vehicle that Mazda could have made it needs to be recalled because of numerous problem someone is going to lose there life. I have had so many things done to my vehicle actuator 2 oil on the engine, turbo went out, timing belt, tie rod broke and tire came off and hit a truck, air conditioning went out, the list can go on and on just got it back after being repaired and it has to go back to the shop on Friday this is the worst car in the world it is a lemon Mazda should be shame of themselves for selling this piece of crap.

2007 Mazda Cx-7 had failure of the air conditioner compressor. Bearings freeze up in the compressor unit. This causes pulley to stop turning and putting pressure on the drive belt. This causes car to overheat and battery to lose charge because alternator and water pump are not spinning. They do not spin because the drive belt slips over them because air conditioner pulley has seized up. This happens around 34,000 miles and generally within months of the expiration of the 36 month warranty. Internet research shows that this is a known problem to Mazda. Mazda refuses to cover repair under power train warranty as it is not an essential part - even though the car become undriveable.

I was on my way to work, when all the sudden my car started flowing massive amount of smoke from the passenger side of my car. I was driving on the highway when my car stopped working. Thank fully there was no accident or injuries. I called a tow truck to get off the road and back to the dealer. Telling me that my A/C compressor went. Costing about 2000$ to fix!. after some investigation, I realized this is a huge problem with 07' and 08' Mazda Cx-7 cars. I believe Mazda fixed the problem on newer Cx-7S but completely ignored the older models. Please help me fix this!

After driving roughly 38,000 miles, my Mazda Cx-7's A/C started to have problems. It stopped blowing cold air and started to make a grinding sound. While I was driving to a place to figure out what was wrong with my car, a burning smell began to arise. It was eventually found that the compressor needed to be replaced and there were metal parts in the compressor. This caused huge damages to the car and it was estimated to cost roughly $17,000 in damages. It has yet to be fixed, but the car has only been driven for 38,000 miles and had regular maintenance intervals. There was almost no indication of what was happening because I did not turn on the A/C often.

I own a 2007 Mazda cx 7, with 40,000 miles on it. I have taken it in to the dealership multiple times for the ac. I had been told it was normal and fine. Last night I was driving home from work when someone on the road informed me that my car was smoking. My husband came to where I was at and found out that my ac compressor had locked up causing my car to not run. Took it to the dealer they say it may not be covered as it is not a powertrain issue. As far as I am concerned, it is. Without the ac compressor the car will not work or drive therefore it is a powertrain problem, it wont drive and it inoperable. I think Mazda needs to recall this part as it leads to safety issues, or maybe they should repair this part for no charge. I am now one unhappy Mazda owner......

A/C condenser for air condition just went on Friday morning went next day Saturday to Mazda dealer they had no inventory no back order date but wanted me to give them $800. To hold and item with no acknowledge to when it will come in they said since it went out yesterday morning I haven't really heard anything bad and you should be able to drive for about 2 weeks, lifted there about 30 min heading to make some errands with my 2 boys, front hood starting smoking very which smoke and smelt burning pulled over waited I called them they said oh, this means that you engine belt broke and your engine is frozen. $1400. To repair 2007 CX07 (nothing but issues).

We own a 2007 Mazda CX7. We live in abilene tx we are currently station in dyess afb. On 4th of July we took a drive to odessa tx to meet up with some friends to light up some fireworks for the holiday. On the way back, we began to feel that our ac started blowing hot air. I stopped to check it out, but everything looked to be in order and nothing was leaking. We kept track of all the gauges to make sure there was nothing wrong. We turned the ac unit off and open the windows to get some air from outside. Once we arrive to dyess afb in abilene tx. We notice a horrible burning rubber smell coming from the hood or our vehicle, the smell became more prevalent. Minutes later, there was a loud bang from under the hood. The car basically began shutting down. All check engine lights came on. Smoke from under the hood. No power steering. This happened at 2 am inside of the base a block away from our house, we were lucky to coast into our side of our house. Upon opening my hood " the engine was extremely hot the water was boiling and the smell of burning rubber was extremely hard. We had to get the car towed to the closest Mazda dealership. We are now left without our vehicle for at least a month trying to get money to fix it. We were told is going to be 1200 to fix it. During this time I found out this isn't an isolated incident, and I feel Mazda needs to address this asap. I was driving with my wife, 7 year old, and infant - and this put us in a very frustrating situation. I was glad I was driving and not my wife, as it could have put her stranded somewhere. Or even worse driven out the road since we lost all power steering. I have found out there are a thousand or so people this has happened to. Why is there no recall already" it is obviously a problem.

At about 55,000 miles and only 3 years of usage, my vehicle started making a terrible racket and smell. I opened the hood to see it was a the clutch of the air compressor that had locked up and caused big problems with the belt. Trying to drive the vehicle to get repaired only made the issue worse. I got a brand new air compressor installed and the noise is now gone and the ac is working fine. (after paying approximately $700) however, the air bag light just started flashing and then staying on and it's only a week since the ac repair. I am worried about the safety of the vehicle and if there is a connection between the two issues. I am reading about all sorts of complaints with both issues and I have read a technical service bulletin about the airbags. A recall needs to be completed very quickly before many owners get seriously injured due to these rampant defects with the vehicle.

Stopped at traffic signal 1 mile after leaving office. Loud howling noise from engine compartment accompanied by burning smell. Smoke began pouring from front left side of engine area. Engine fire and/or complete failure averted by immediate shut down of vehicle. Problem diagnosed as A/C compressor failure. Vehicle has 57K miles. Subsequent search of web forums on the problem details numerous complaints of same issue. Filing complaint today as this is an obvious design flaw that has not been addressed by manufacturer, through recall or tsb, that could lead to engine fire/failure and serious injury to vehicle occupants; either through vehicle fire or loss of control from engine or system failure, as a result of the defect.
