CX-7 4-cyl

  • 44,500 miles
I purchased my 2007 Mazda Cx-7 from a dealership in greensburg, pa in February of 2014, it was purchased as a used car with only 36,500 miles on it. I had no problems with the car at first, then I noticed my gas mileage was getting worse, that is when on memorial day my check engine light would come on and then go off. I took it my mechanic because I was unable to get it in to the dealership for a week at some points and the light would have be off by then. Then when I was on my way home on the evening of 9/4/14 my car made a very weird sound any time I would try to push on the gas. I pulled the car off the road and there it sat until I could reach the service department on the following day. My husband took the car to the dealership and that's where it sat because he was informed that it was unsafe to drive? I went up after work only to have them tell me that they could not get the readings from the diagnostic test and that they would have to send it to an actual Mazda dealership, where it has been for almost a week. I was informed yesterday that my turbo and other un-mentioned parts had broken. I then waited to hear back as to whether the warranty that I paid an additional $2,000 for at the time of purchase would cover it, it will not cover this and they stated that the turbo was not considered a part of the "powertrain" so they quoted me a price of upwards of $3300 to repair the vehicle that I have had for 7 months. I have started to do research into this vehicle and I have found out that this is actually quite a common problem with this make and model and that the manufacturer will not stand by the product fully knowing that this is a problem and the consumer is left holding quite a hefty bill. I implore you to research this and force their hand so that "[xxx]" doesn't keep getting stuck holding a huge bill for something this company just doesn't want to fix. As the proud owner of a new Mazda CX7, I felt confident after the first year of driving this SUV that it would carry me at least 10yrs. Until I begin to notice acceleration problems and noticing puffs of white smoke expelled from the exhaust pipe when it finally realized I was trying to increase speed. Took SUV to a Mazda dealer and was informed nothing was wrong with it. Fine, then began to hear like a rattling noise during acceleration (sounded like a rock in a tin can) sound then goes away after a few moments. Took to dealer again was told no problem. Well, on my way to work at 70 mph on busy interstate, I lose acceleration. Cost safely to the side of the road without being ran over by 18 wheeler, , had vehicle towed to Mazda dealer. I was then informed the timing chain broke, yes at 70,000 miles. Only then to be informed later that due to timing breaking my engine was ruined. I was then devastated, even more so after I was told it would 8000 for a new engine plus 2000 for labor. I had no other option but to park the vehicle and attempted to save money to have it fixed. Well that was 2 yrs ago and its still parked, and 2 yrs now without a vehicle. I had routine documented oil changes at Mazda dealers only, I took very good care of this truck. After searching the internet, I am reading the same incidents from thousands of people concerning the exact same issue. Mazda has finally states that there is a problem with the timing chains and has issued an extended warranty on it. But from reading reports, Mazda is giving people a hard time. Mazda CX7 are dangerous vehicles, someone could have been killed due to this poorly made SUV. I am reporting this because it really needs to be looked into before someone is killed to many people on the internet complaining about this failure. Please investigate this vehicle< we cant all be wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started to accelerate after coming off of an exit ramp when I heard a noise from the engine then I started to lose power. Immediately after that when I depressed the gas pedal to accelerate, a grinding noise occurred. I was able to get the vehicle to a parking lot. I had the car towed to Mazda dealership who informed me that the turbo had failed. They want all maintenance records for the time I have owned the car in order to make a determination of whether it will be covered under warranty. I purchased an extended powertrain warranty which covers the engine and turbo to 100,000. But it appears they are stating it is due to improper maintenance as I cannot produce all my oil change receipts.

Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) on October 25, 2009 my [xxx] and myself, [xxx], were driving back from Pennsylvania on route 15 in Maryland in a 2007 Mazda Cx-7. as we were driving down the road we accelerated to pass another vehicle. As I accelerated the vehicle the gas pedal automatically went to the floor and would not slow down. I tried to take control of the violently speeding Mazda Cx-7. as I tapped the brake the car would not slow down, the car would just accelerate faster and shake back and fourth. At this point I had to awaken my fiance from sleeping to let her know we had a problem and to brace herself in case of accident. Knowing that the car was not slowing down by tapping the brake I used both feet to try to stop the Mazda. Finally after noticing the vehicle billowing gray smoke from the sides I knew I had to make a decision, or it could be life or death. I swerved into the emergency lane and stopped the vehicle off route 15. While still holding my fee on the brake as hard as I possibly could, the vehicle still tried to surge forward. In order to make the vehicle stop doing this out of control action, I was required to turn the ignition to the off position. While doing so I noticed the engine racing past 6000 RPM's. I was in total fear for our lives. I wasn't sure if the car was going to blow up because of the now dark gray smoke that was coming out. We decided to not call the police. But instead we decided to take the chance and restart the vehicle, as we had no other means of transportation to get back to Virginia. I am now to a point where I do not trust the vehicle. I have a true fear every time I think about me or my fiance driving it and any other Mazda on the road. I have never seen or heard of any such thing happening to anyone else. My fiance and I, along with the other 100's of people that were on the road this day could have been in grave danger because of the defect that has occurred with this vehicle.

1. I was pressing on the gas pedal to accelerate as I was merging onto the highway via an on-ramp. The car was previously driving normally without any problems. 2. the car kept on accelerating after I removed my foot from the pedal. It continued accelerating even after pressing on the brakes (I could feel / smell the brakes working but the car would continue to accelerate even though no foot was on the gas pedal). The car continued to do this even after I put the car in the manual transmission mode. At this point I drove off to the side of the highway to stop the car and it only stopped after turning off the engine.
