While my 18 year old was driving home from work in the car, the engine stalled and then stopped running altogether. Just prior to this, the check engine light came on. Almost simultaneously the car lost acceleration and finally, complete engine failure.

The car was towed to an auto repair shop who after diagnosing the problem, announced the only solution was to replace the engine. They said they could replace it with a used engine that had 100,000 miles on it although it would have a new water pump. Total cost to do this would be $6700.00. The cost is so significant that I made the decision to sell the car as scrap for $1375.00. The body, interior and tires were all in excellent shape, so this was a devastating loss!

water pump failed

Last year I experienced the brake booster failure at 94,000 miles and got no help from Mazda and now it's the water pump! My dealer is not really sure if it can be repaired at this point due to the fact the impeller has cut into the engine block!!!! Waiting to hear on a price of a new engine. Terrible design and both Mazda and Ford know it but won't do anything about it.

To get to the water pump you would have to remove part of engine. My car was in the shop two weeks prior no problems. My engine light comes on one day while driving. Car shuts down engine dead. This is a defect in the car. The Manufacturer / designer Mazda should replace all the water pumps bad design! The Mazda repair rep. would not know if your pump is bad until the coolant mixes with the engine by then you will need a new engine. I am pissed!!!!!! I think i am going to junk this car. Do not want any more Mazda cars!!!!!!!!
