This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Mazda dealer.
I have had the transfer case replaced 3 times (fourth one is also whining)
I have no respect for Mazda, and will not buy another Mazda, because after repeated (4) phone calls to the original Mazda rep. (Dan) I cannot get a call back.
It’s a shame what Mazda is doing, because with the internet today, consumers can get the word out, and it never pays to bite the hands that feed you.

My car has been at the dealership for the past 3 weeks. I bought my car brand new in Dec. 2010. It is a 2011. I have pre-paid regular oil changes at the dealership, gets regular maintenance every 3000 miles. When I took it to the dealership on Oct 13th 2014 to get the oil changed I was told the transfer case had gone out and most likely the transmission and I needed to get it fixed as soon as possible. I scheduled an appointment with the dealership mechanic as soon as possible and the car has been at the Mazda dealership in Renton, WA ever since then which has been almost 3 weeks now. I DID NOT get a rental car because they are booked out on rental cars for the next 3 weeks due to so many Mazdas coming in with the same problems (transfer case and transmission out!). I have tried another Mazda dealership close to my home in Puyallup, WA who told me the same thing. They are booked out on rental cars for weeks to come due to the same problem.
This was my only transportation and I have to pay to be picked up at my house on a weekly basis to be taken to work and to be picked up at work and be taken home. I have to pay someone to take me so I can run errands and get groceries. My expense per week is 200 dollars just to be able to go to work and do the daily activities. This will be 600 dollars in 3 weeks. I have been referred to a Mazda dealer by a family member who praised Mazda as an excellent car. I am very disappointed and angry at the workmanship of the car and to be left without transportation for 3 weeks while it is being worked on at a Mazda dealership for no fault of my own. I was told by several Mazda dealers this is a problems with the Mazdas, that is why there are no rental cars to be given out and will be most likely a recall on transfer cases and transmissions.
If I will not be re-reimbursed the extra money I had to spend for expenses just to be able to go to work I will assure you I will never buy another Mazda again, nor will I recommend to buy a Mazda to any of my friends and family members. This is an outrage to say the least for a 3 year old car to have major problems like mine. I would appreciate an answer, please. You may contact me on my e-mail: carmen.stephens.civ@mail.mil.
Thank you
