About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
- Water pump failed causing coolant to mix with oil. This repair cost was around $3,900. - Luckily this failure happened on our community road and was able to pull into our driveway. Mechanic stated that if this happened on the highway or regular road, this could have caused a major incident and possibly a blown motor. - No, but complaints of similar issues have been reported via my online research. - Just by the mechanic I had my vehicle towed to. - There was no indication of an issue until the water pump failed.

I purchased a 2014 Mazda cx nine a year and a half ago. The other day I was driving and I don't know where my fan got really loud so I pulled over and turned up the heat and turned off any ac. All the sun steam started coming out of my engine and the car died. After towing it to the local dealership I was told that I had two options. I could either buy a brand new car or pay $13,000 to have it repaired. Apparently the water pump broke and the engine seized up. I had absolutely no warning. No leaking, no check engine light, nothing' I later found several reviews saying this was an issue with this make & model. I still owe over $16,000 on this car and now I have to get a new car.

When making left turn started hearing a squeal and air conditioner shut off then floor board on front passenger side started filling with water after looking online, apparently many people have had this issue with their Mazda CX9. It is caused by the drain to your air conditioner getting clogged multiple videos are online of how to unclog it this should be a clue to Mazda that there is a design flaw took it to dealer and was told it was a maintenance issue no where in my maintenance manual does it say to get air conditioner drain cleaned cost 138 for them to clean it out and caused some damage to blower motor called Mazda and of coarse got the run around online people are saying they have had to take theirs in multiple times to get unclogged. Some having to pay 300 each time this issue needs to be investigated and fixed

I started my car at home to allow it to warm up while I got the kids ready for school. My cars starts with keyfob (no key) once we was all ready we left home to go to school. I proceeded to drive my car to the school (without the keys, apparently I left them on the table and forgot to grab them) we arrived at the school. I parked, turned the car off and entered the building. When I returned to leave, I was unable to since I did not have my car keys. My Mazda CX9 will shift into gear and drive without the fob within proximity to the vehicle this clearly violates FMVSS 114 S5.2.2- except as specified in S5.2.4, the vehicle must be designed such that the transmission or gear selection control cannot move from the 'park' position, unless the key is in the starting system therefore, I was stranded, I contacted Mazda service (because in the past it seemed as when I got into the car to leave without the keys, I could not shift our of park) to ask they said that is how it was meant to operate. This is a major safety concern. 1) my car can be moved without the key fob 2) no notice that key fob is missing 3) be stranded due to not having keys.

I purchased the car with 7,000 miles and since the beginning there has been a humming noise every time I turn the steering wheel to either side. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was a piece of plastic stuck to the control arm. The car continued making the noise only audible on a quiet night and now the car has 30,000 and humming is more pronounced day and night with only slight turn angle. The other issue is the drivers seat has a little play, felt during turns. And the last issue is the usb just stopped working
