Right after the 140,000km (87000mi) service at Mazda, the engine light started to come on. The first diagnosis was something about airflow throttle. The mechanics checked all connections that the caps are re-seated properly and reset the light. Half a day later the light is on again and car back for 2 more days at the Mazda repair shop. This time they said that the coolant was low, topped off the level and reset the engine light.

Out I went again and within 10-12km of driving my car, the light is back on. Dropped it off again (same day) to Mazda repair shop. Just got a call saying they are 100% sure it is the water pump. During my youth, from growing-up and working with my father, a truly honest and talented mechanic, I knew this is not cheap. But then I start searching the web and see many such issues across many model years for Mazda CX-9 and 6. There's a lawsuit in California against Mazda on this. This is an obvious on-going issue and if a full recall isn't done, the very least a court should make certain that Mazda pays for the occurrences when such failures do occur, especially where the issue causes a mixing of coolant into the engine resulting in a catastrophic failure of the engine. What fault does the buyer have? The buyer needs to be protected from this type of defect.

I'm fighting now with the Mazda repair shop demanding they call Mazda to have this paid.
