At the beginning of last summer (was living in Florida at the time), under 10K miles, the passenger-side power folding mirror motor began to sound very loud when operating, like grinding, or like the motor is stressed and pushing hard to open or fold the mirrors. After about 2 months, the motor became unable to fully open or fold the mirrors. Worryingly, the mirror dangled loosely between the fully-open and fully-closed states, presenting a safety hazard while driving as the mirror could not be aimed properly to see behind the car. The dealer ordered a repair kit for the power-folding mirrors which took about 2 weeks to arrive, 4 hours to install; I don't have the part number of that repair kit. In the meantime, I was able to manually disable the automatic folding/unfolding when car is locked/unlocked: search for keywords "mazda power folding mirrors disable" for the hidden factory enable/disable procedure. THIS SHOULD BE A USER-DEFEATABLE FUNCTION, NOT A HIDDEN FACTORY/TEST PROCEDURE!

Well, I live in New Jersey now and the same thing just happened to the driver-side power folding mirror, at almost 15K miles. The parts and labor are again covered under warranty, but inoperable side mirrors are a major safety hazard. There are also parts and shipping issues which exacerbates the issue currently.

This seems to occur irrespective of average temperature of the car's environment, or perhaps the motor/gears fail in both high sun/heat and low sun/heat environments, or perhaps the motor/gears will simply fail every 10-15K miles. In any case, I imagine out-of-warranty repair would not be quick, easy, or inexpensive.
