ABS & dsc lights on ABS & dsc lights on

The ABS light on my 2010 Mazda 3 started coming on and off while driving. Sometimes it’s on, sometimes it’s off, but either way it’s extremely unsettling since ABS is a major safety system.

I had the car scanned with a Foxwell tool and it showed:

C0020:1C-2B – ABS Pump Motor Control Circuit U0425:62-60 – Invalid Data from ABS/IPC U0140:00-28 – Lost Communication with BCM

After looking into it, I discovered Mazda has a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 04-002/13) for ABS pump motor brush failures in these cars. My issue lines up exactly with what’s described in that bulletin — the pump motor fails intermittently, especially in heat and humidity.

The scary part is this happens without warning while driving. I don’t know if the ABS will be there when I need it in an emergency.

Mazda has not issued a recall, and from what I see online, many other Mazda 3 owners have dealt with the same ABS pump issue. The repair involves replacing the whole ABS hydraulic unit, which can cost $1,000+ just for the part.

This should be a safety recall. A failed ABS pump isn’t just an inconvenience — it puts drivers and families at risk.

We’ve been dealing with the ABS and traction control light on for a few years now. Figuring it’s been figured out by Mazda, I’ve been researching a solution. The part quoted years ago under TSB 04-002/13 by a now out of business Mazda dealership, was part number BBY7-43-7AZD (ABS Hydraulic Unit) for $765.72. With Labor at 2.5 hours came to a total of $1,123.61. Add to that the brake flush at 1 hr at $109.95. This, a few years ago, was a bargain.

We didn’t bite and let the issue linger. Now, a few years later, this fix is looking more like $2K and Mazda is charging more like $1,100 for the same part. Sounds fishy.

I’m hoping there’s a recall or Mazda will resolve this at their cost, under warranty.

Any ideas?

2015 ABS light began to illuminate. The mechanic claimed it would cost $1300 new or $500 second hand to repair. As a result of being too expensive I elected not to get fixed. Recently, 2019 I decided finally to fix the problem finding out it will now cost $1500. The mechanic advised this is a well known issue that Mazda 3 2010 models , the ABS is a manufacturing fault, take it back to Mazda to repair. Long story short , Mazda have denied the claim based on the age of the car.

My argument is Mazda have known about this issue and elected not to tell their consumers, how many people like myself are driving around with an un-serviceable ABS , and I have been carrying this problem for 4 years. I will continue to fight this with Mazda as this is a manufacturing fault not fair wear and tear regardless of the year of the car. A manufacturing fault is a manufacturing fault regardless of have many services , reviews or inspections the car has, at some stage it will fail.

TO ALL CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE PAID FOR A MAZDA 3 2010 ABS REPAIR... take the car back to Mazda and claim your money back. Mazda are being dishonorable, and deceitful in their responsibilities to their customers. It is a safety issue , it is a manufacturing fault , and they are negligent in their obligations of safety concerns. They have known about this for years but adopted a “wait and see” attitude.

Please, if anyone can provide me with a copy of the TSB for this ABS I will be grateful. I have requested this from Mazda and they refuse to give it to me.

Thank you.

MAZDA3 S

  • Automatic transmission

2010 Mazda 3 S with 58000 miles. ABS and traction lights stay on; mechanic replaced supposed bad ABS sensor on front passenger wheel ($200); lights still stay on. Mechanic advised to take vehicle to Mazda per technical service bulletin dated July 17, 2013. Mazda has known about this since 2013 and given number of complaints on line has not had recall? Mazda dealer charged $149.50 for diagnosis; was told car needs new ABS module for $1456. Was advised part is on back order with "no expected delivery date"; was told "do not drive car in inclement weather, very hazardous."

So as a consumer, what is one to do if one does not have money to fix hazardous unsafe car that Mazda has known about but refuses to recall? Mazda not stocking parts to keep their car owners safe.

MAZDA3 S 2.5L 4 cyl

Back in Oct of 2015 my ABS and DSC lights would come on an go off for no reason. As of December 2016 the lights have remained on. I replaced the speed sensors in each wheel, checked the tone rings, tested the wiring for breaks, tested the brake light switch, I have nothing left to check other than the ABS systems.

I recently had my clutch replaced on my 2010 Mazda 3 S by Mazda, while performing the work I asked if the technician could tell me what the problem was, I was told that the ABS pump was bad, was not told if it was the computer module or the hyd pump motor or valve body. Based on the symptoms, I am assuming that the control module is bad.

I found that there are TSB's on this problem with many complaints by other 2010 Mazda 3 owners.

NHTSA ID: 10053757 TSB ID: SB-04-002-13

NHTSA ID: 10097406 TSB ID: 04-002-13-2812

What can be done to get Mazda to accept the fact that they have a known issue?
