I was driving on back road in town and suddenly lost the power steering on my well kept 2010 Mazda 3. I barely have 26000 miles on it after 5 years. It started working by itself. Next again the same thing in the morning. But when i lost it third time next day, it never came back on. I had lost it for good. I brought it to local Firestone. They looked at it and determined that the Power Steering pump had gone bad. They had heard about this complaint before also and I learned on google that prior model of the 2010 and prior year had a recall on power steering pump. They advised me to bring it to local Mazda service center. They confirmed that it was indeed the power steering pump and it was going to cost me $850 for the pump and about $300 for the labor!! I called up Mazda customer care. They told me it is not covered under warranty but they would cover the labor. However, they refused to cover the part which will cost me $850. Hope someone at Mazda reads this and helps me out. Its a lot of money to spend on 5 years old car with just 26,000 miles on it!! I've owned Audi, Toyota, Honda, used Nissan, but never had such a problem.

Once again, 2 months ago I had to replace the water pump, today while driving home the power steering pump starts going in and out you can literally feel it when it happens. I got my car off the road, and checked under the hood, no leaks, fluids not low.....? What the hell....this was an awfully expensive car for this....it's not just the mileage because lots of other people are having the same problem on brand new cars. This is a safety issue, MAZDA needs to nut up and step up.
