Was driving between 15-20mph when the rpm increased drastically but the car barely accelerated. Looked down to make sure I was in D and not in tiptronic mode. Was definitely in D. Shifted to Neutral then back to D and accelerated again, same issue. I had previously owned a manual car so I know what this feels like - the gears are not engaged and somehow the car had slipped from being in gear to neutral, except I couldn't get it back into gear.
I managed to pull into a gas station, turned the car off, waited 5 seconds and started the car again. Everything was fine and I was able to drive off. For a 2013 car with just a little over 30k miles, this should not be happening. Took it to a mechanic today and they say everything looks fine. Topped off all the fluids and I was off on my merry way.
Hoping this is just an "electrical issue" or maybe just needed more transmission fluid. Either way, this was definitely a pain in the ass problem when I had 2 kids in the back and some jerk honking at me.
