I live in West Australia. I noticed first a "chip" above the windscreen on the drivers side (ride side of car), then as I was cleaning the roof I noticed little raised ridges. Inspecting further I was surprised to see little squiggly worm/web spots. I took the car to my local Mazda dealer where I bought the car, who took photos and sent to Mazda HO. The response was (typically):
"Thanks for the good photos and description of concern. Rust definitely seems to have been
originated due to stone chips which is not a manufacturing defects. As such, I would recommend
to request customer to further discuss with a panel shop about the best repair action."
I do not agree although the one above the windscreen may be debatable the others I believe are definitely not due to stone chips. I have other small stone chips on the roof and they are in no way anything like the problem areas. The paint also appears extremely thin and I am aiming to have it measured as well as obtain second opinion/third opinion before taking it further.
