While driving to work and driving my 5-year-old son to school (same location, I'm an elementary school teacher) on the highway, the car started swaying from side to side. I tried engaging the brakes, they wouldn't work. The car sideswiped a Mac truck and spun in front of the Mac truck. The Mac truck hit the passenger side (where my son was sitting in his booster seat- it was a seat that had a high back and padding on the side of the head). The car clipped the truck upon impact causing the truck to flip several times across 3 lanes until it passed the shoulder and the patch of hillside grass stopped the Mac truck.
My car had still stopped in the middle of the highway because we were in the shock when the truck started flipping. Cars (during morning rush hour) miraculously did not hit us. I then drove my car (shattered on the passenger side and totaled) to the shoulder. I explained what happened but it just seemed as if I was at fault. I found years later the Mazda 6 and other Mazdas had an issue with the throttle causing erratic revving which could cause accidents, especially while on the highway.
It was a miracle we didn't die in the crash. The driver of the Mac truck walked out of the truck without a scratch as well. This was a new car, we had it less than a a month. The accident made the morning news! Helicopters everywhere, it was horrible scene!
