The contact owns a 2008 Mazda Mazda6. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact noticed a yellow spider coming from the vent area onto the carpet. The contact stated she had noticed spiders in this area several times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 11V134000 (fuel system, gasoline: Storage: Tank assembly) which stated that a certain type of spider could weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line and potentially cause a restriction in the line. The manufacturer advised that the recall was only for the 2009-2010 model Mazda6. The failure mileage 36,000 and the current mileage was 48,000.

My stepson was involved in a rear-end collision with a 2008 Mazda 6. the damage is severe enough to the left rear area of the car I believe the car is totaled. It was a 40-50 mph impact. The fuel tank was exposed after the accident and crushed. My concern and complaint is why didn't the fuel safety cutoff activate after a hard impact in the rear? I believe there is a device mandated by federal laws that after a rear end collision of this magnitude that the car would not start after the impact. In this case it did start and run smooth. I would like to have someone investigate as to why this device wasn't not properly functioning at the time of the accident. I will also notify Mazda and my insurance company of this defect as well.
