I bought this car 6 months ago with 62,744 miles on the odometer. I took it out on three different test drives before purchase, and all seemed well; ran great, shifted great, excellent cosmetic condition. Then, in May, I noticed a slight lag had developed between gears (1st to 2nd), almost like the engine was bogging down between those gears. There's also a very audible whine coming from the transmission during cold starts (the whine disappears after the car has warmed up).
I've had the car back to the dealership for these issues. As you would suspect, their official diagnosis was that "everything's fine". Regardless, I had them change the transmission fluid. This didn't help. The shift lag is now noticeable between all gears. The other day, I experienced the reddest of red flags; while slowly exiting a parking lot, the RPM's raced to 3,000 between 1st & 2nd gear. I promptly let off the gas peddle and it shifted into 2nd.
From what I've seen online, replacement of the transmission would be between $3,000 and $4,000. Unacceptable. I have only put 3,000 miles on this car since I purchased it in March (I live in Fargo, ND; nothing is more than 15 minutes away from wherever you are in this town). It is very aggravating that the transmission is failing at 65,700 miles in what appeared to be a well-maintained car.
