Intermittently, the cruise control buttons do not perform their proper function. When experiencing the issue, all of the following occur: 1) cancel button functions as the minus (decelerate) button, 2) the minus button functions as the plus (accelerate) button, 3) the plus button doesn't work, and 4) the off button disengages the cruise control but does not shutoff the cruise control main power. This behavior is an issue because with the cancel button acting as the minus button, the cruise control will activate with the cancel button. In addition, having the minus button function as the plus button could cause an accident if the car behaves in the opposite manner as expected. The issue occurs intermittently while driving.

The contact owns a 2014 Mazda 6. while pulling into the parking spot and depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, it suddenly accelerated. The vehicle crashed into a tree and the engine continued to rev as if attempting to continue accelerating. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained bruises to the upper body, which did not require medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was able to feel the vehicle attempting to accelerate on its own. The vehicle was taken to the sea coast Mazda dealer, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. While driving on the highway with cruise control on, my car atomatically slammed on the brakes and slowed down rapidly. A short time later, the forward obstruction warning indicator came on and said an inspection was needed. Mazda dealership said "never heard of that" despite similar public comments on user forums. Dealer will not cover full cost of the repair becuase care it out of warranty. I believe this is a serious safety issue that should not fall under normal warranty considerations.

This vehicle has a problem with sudden acceleration when traveling at very slow speed or idling. On numerous occasions the vehicle will accelerate while you are idling and or have foot on brake. I was driver on one occasion while I was at a fast food drive in idling in gear and the car suddenly accelerated a lurched forward. On other occasions I have been idling waiting to turn left and the car suddenly accelerated. This particular accident happened while driving under 10mph and the car suddenly accelerated causing a rear end collision with the car in front.

The adaptive cruise control (mrcc), smart city brake system (sbs), and distance recognition (drss) safety features failed for the first time during the mentioned date above (Feb 18 2014, at 21000km. I reported to Mazda service center I khobar, ksa though phone calls, emails, and brought car for several times. I waited for months until the issues were resolved on April 7 2014 at 30000km last June 14, 2014, the same failures occurred again while I was driving on a highway at 75mph. I brought the car to service center on the next day and it took a day to fix the issues. Im afraid the same issues will occur again which is put myself to high risk for road accidents.
