MAZDA6 Touring

  • Automatic transmission

I was stopped in traffic at a red light when the car lurched forward as if I was struck in the rear. I noticed the engine was stalled and after putting it in park the car started up fine. I pulled over to check for rear end damage, certain I had been hit from behind, but there was no damage. I thought it was a fluke until it happened again about a month later.

I contacted my local dealer's service department and was informed of a similar problem with a CX9, but there were no reported problems with the Mazda 6. I put the car in the shop on August 24, 2015 and was contacted by the service department the same day. They explained Mazda was aware of the problem and a service bulletin addressed the problem by to re-calibrating the computer system. The technician also said it may or may not fix the problem, but was the first step in addressing the problem. It is not very reassuring to to know the fix is more or less a lottery.

Update from Sep 9, 2015: My dealer's service department said there was a service bulletin from Mazda regarding the problem. The first step to fix to the problem was flash the computer system. It has been nearly a month and so far it hasn't happened again.
