This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Mazda dealer.
Bommarito Mazda fixed it with no problems. However, we did have it roll while in park and hit a parking sign and made dent in bumper. Have not pursued this with them yet, mostly because we thought we were going crazy. Not sure if they will fix this issue or not.

Had the car 5 weeks and the transmission went out. Hesitating when trying to take off and then jerking when starting to move like someone hit you from rear. Lucky to have made it to the dealership without accident. They are replacing transmission but how safe will it be to drive? On top of that this is SECOND defect. Have complained to Mazda and reported to salesperson hoping to get his assistance to reach someone with authority. Been over 3 days since written complaint with only confirmation of receipt. Car been at shop for 8 days thus far.

Was hearing a grinding noise when I was braking for a intersection and driving from intersection. I thought the brakes were locking up or something and took it in to find noise came from transmission. They said they have had some problems with the 2016 transmissions and it would be replaced with upgrade transmission. They gave me a loner car for a few weeks. When picking up car I asked for an extended warranty for piece of mind but was told you have a new transmission and it is good to original warranty of 50000 miles. I said that is less than what it took for that one to fail can you upgrade to 100000. Was told no do not worry it's fixed. So far no problems.
