First off, the little 1.6 engine can barely carry the car around, let alone have a compressor dragging it down further. It is useful to have in hot climates around town or cruising down the freeway. This one simply stopped cooling even though it had plenty of coolant so it was obvious that the compressor had failed. The cheapest rebuilt one I could find was $350 and I couldn't afford that so I looked around online and found a used one for $85.00. It is a simple change and you can do it yourself if you have minimal mechanical skills. Plenty of You Tube videos around to show you what to do. The shops will soak you for about $1000 if you take it in and just say "fix it".
