alternator stops working

The car wouldn't start coming out of the grocery store. Seemed likes the battery was dead. I borrowed a booster pack and boosted it but it died as soon as I put it in gear. Had to drive home with the booster pack and start looking at the alternator. As the battery light never came on, I tested the inputs and the signal had only 0.47V key ON. The other end of the wires are under the fuse box, so I looked under there and found contamination in the connector's holes of the alternator wires. Cleaned with brake cleaner and everything works fine now.
