I have a 2012 C250W Mercedes Benz. Purchased in December, 2011 brand new, with 20 miles on it. I received regular scheduled maintenance every 10K miles, as recommended ONLY from the Mercedes Dealership that I purchased the vehicle from. I never had any issues with my car, except replacing the battery once in 2016. On 4/26/18, at 66,000 miles, my car was "hesitant" to crank for about a week prior to me getting it serviced.
My B- Maintenance was overdue, so I took it in to the dealership to get the maintenance and to figure out "why" it was taking a little longer to turn over when I switched it on. I didn't have any noise, rattling, or anything. No problems driving it. Only, the slight change in cranking it up....where usually I could just switch the key on and it cranks...at this point, it was taking a few seconds longer. I thought maybe my starter was going bad.
On Day "3" of having this issue, my check engine light came on. It did not stay on. On day "5" the check engine light came on and stayed on. I took it in on day "7" for maintenance. I was called back with a $6800 estimate for repair of a timing chain. I was also told that the computer gave several other codes meaning I might need more things done once they actually started repairing this. Now, after reading similar complaints, I definitely think the manufacturer should issue a recall for this.
It makes no sense to repair a car for $7000+ when I could just purchase a new one. All of your hard-earned money spent into taking care of your vehicle, and something major like this happens out of nowhere. And, you know it's not because of something you did wrong, or ignore. I travel with work and whenever I'm gone, which is usually months at a time, I rent a vehicle. I only drive my car locally and it only has one driver. It's definitely an issue with this make/model vehicle that needs to be recalled. I should not have to pay the price of another car to repair something that happens to every one of these cars around 50-60K.
I will be calling the manufacturer to make a complaint re: this issue. Until then, I will be parking my vehicle. Which is very inconvenient that I should have to do that after putting thousands of dollars into maintenance over the past 6+ years. Very upset over this.
