And ordinary day at my job and it was 17 degrees outside freezing! got off and went to my car the car unlocked from far away all lights came on put the key in the ignition and didn't hear the usual noise I hear when I put the key in! turned the key and nothing happened!! and that is where I found out I have a problem, it can't be the battery because all the lights comes on properly and can't be the key because it was working from far away. Car was stuck in park and it was hard to tow it. called road side assistance and towed the car to the dealer. they diagnosed and it was the steering wheel lock just what I expected. Repairs are $1,400 and extended service did not cover it. I think Mercedes-Benz of USA should recall it or at least reimburse the consumers for the parts because it's a very common problem among Mercedes vehicles.

Car will not start. Turn key and the engine will not even make a noise. Lights will come on. Have read 100's of forums and complaints and found that the issue is the Electronic Steering Lock that Mercedes will charge me almost $2k to fix. Have ruled out all possible issues including battery, fuses or key malfunction. I'm stranded in my home.

The car just wouldn't start when I stopped a store for a short time. Got it towed and repaired - Picked it up today; Mileage is exactly 250,000. Was is pre-wired to stop working at quarter of a million miles. Car has been really great other than this issue. Just found it very interesting.

car sterring wheel & inigition lock. had to tow in
I think, this problem should be covered by mercedes Benz/defect/recall because its almost unheard of this particular part wearing out on a Mercedes. I was stranded for (4) hours before I could get towed. I have been a Mercedes owner for 22 years and have never heard of the switch wearing out. I The dealer also shared that this problem has been occuring quite often!! if switchs in American car can last the life expectance of the car, I do expect the same for Mercedes. Recommending highly that I be refunded

Stopped car, ran into store to shop, returned, and the car would not start. All lights, alarms, radio etc were operating normally. Doors lock and unlock no problem. Failure of steering lock caused the car to be locked in park. Called tow truck, had to use You-Tube to find video of how to unlock or bypass pocked park condition. Had car towed to dealership, but the part was unavailable for several days, and they estimated cost to repair is 1465.00 dollars. Would appear with the number of failures reported the condition could be eliminated or the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair.
