C300

  • Automatic transmission
  • 117,000 miles

Same issue as everyone else, I own a 2011 C300 and recently, my car suddenly stopped working while I was attempting to leave - it would not crank or turn over/start. There has been no damage or wreck/accidents to cause this. There were also no warning lights or symptoms in my car beforehand. My car was towed to a Mercedes Benz dealership and they've diagnosed the problem as an electronic steering lock failure as well as some wiring issues that lead to a much bigger problem and I was told that they aren’t sure how it happened and I was quoted a very expensive repair bill of over $7k.

Upon researching this problem further, I found out that steering lock failure and ignition switch failure is a recurring and common problem and many people with my car and similar models have had the same problem over the years. It seems that this is not a normal problem for any car to have, nor is it caused by normal wear and tear. Some people have even had their cars suddenly stop working while they are driving and even with a lot less mileage. Many people have also asked why these faulty parts have not been recalled yet. Where do I go from here since I am the second owner to this car and it has around 117,000 miles. It is currently being worked on but they are estimating the cost to be over 7k. Is it even worth it to get this fixed?

C300 Sport 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

Throughout the week car running great comes Wednesday evening go to start car and nothing!, no turn over, just nothing. Only thing that will light up is the center console. The alarm will sound the trunk will open from door button so it will seem as if the starter. The EIS module can only be bought from dealer so the coast of course is crazy high. Have read on forms there are some companies out there that will repair it instead of buying a new Module but did not do much searching on the info. So the module itself is around 900$ to 1100 dollars depending on class of car I have heard it to be as high as $1300 alone. This EIS Module has to do with the steering column and the Electronic Ignition Switch (pretty much it has to do with where you put your key to start your car) some of the most common reason of this going out from what i read is:

>Jump starting whilst key is inserted

>Power surge

>Low battery Voltage
