problem #1

CLK320 LX 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

While driving at highway speed last Sunday we heard what sounded like chains or gears winding or unwinding. The sound lasted about 10 seconds. We had no idea what had happened until we stopped and the headrests on both rear seats were straight up, touching the roof of our convertible. We had the top up while driving home that hot afternoon.

I have tried to move the headrests but they are solidly in place and I have not succeeded in moving them at all. In addition I cannot lower the top with the automated system. I have not tried to lower it manually.

The shop that does our regular maintenance cannot even look at this problem for another couple of weeks so I am seeking advice from anyone having experienced this kind of problem previously.

Thank you. Gary Heusel, 808-783-1704
