The petrol tank lid just fell off when a petrol filling station attendant was trying to lift it for filling. It was then discovered that the oart (lid) was actually glued onto the fuel tank cover frame.

The problem was reported and vehicle sent in to the M/B service center for inspection and rectification. It was left with the service center for 2 full days, just to be temporarily rectified by strapping the lid on to the fuel tank cover frame with some masking tape. I was advised to come back for the complete rectification when the service center received the replacement parts from M/B.

3 weeks passed and there was no news from the service center. When served with a notice that I would have the problem fixed by an outside workshop at the expense of M/B or the service center, the service center test message me to inform that the parts had finally arrived from M/B, and had been sent out to another center for painting. I was assured that as soon as the service center receives the painted parts back, I would be informed to come back for fixing.

another 3 or 4 weeks passed without any progress. When I called in to inquire on the status, I was informed that should send in the vehicle to the service center for it to be sent to another center for painting. I was expected to take about 4 days from the date I send in.

this is most ridiculous excuse for whatever reason best known to the service center -- first the confirmation to paint the replacement parts (the lid), then the need to send in the car for painting after fixing the lid. Presumable it was to ensure a close shade between the weathered body paint color and that of the newly painted lid. But I never complain as long as the original color paint is used on the lid, even though there could be possibility of contrasting tone / shade between the new and the weathered body color; I am quite confident the different color tone would not be sharply visible as I maintain my car well, including body color with periodic polishing and waxing protection on the car body paint.
