Discovered this problem a couple of days after taking delivery. Whine is fairly pronounced and irritating as hell. Every time the tach passes the 1600 mark, you hear the whine. At the right combination of gear, speed and RPM the whine is steady. It is annoying, distracting, and actually interferes with listening to music on the radio. Dealer says car is designed to do that and nothing can done about it. Pretty sure it is a harmonics problem in the exhaust system. Driving in city traffic, the noise will drive you batty. Contacted MBUSA Customer Assistance, they pretty much gave the the same answer and blew me off. Car has 700 miles and today I completed the first step in obtaining a new car under Georgia's Lemon law. Otherwise, the car is great and I love it dearly. Pending no further remediation efforts by Mercedes-Benz, I plan to demand that the car be replaced.
